Cynthia Abenojar-Barbieri – "A Well Rounded Girl"

Her family and close friends call her "Dyndz", short for Cindy. She was born in Nice,France on May 27, 1986 with a Filipino mom and a French dad. She is in third year college, currently taking up dentistry in the Faculty of Medicine in Bordeaux in the south west of France. She is the eldest of the three siblings. She has got one sister Marie-Anne, 20 years old, also in college. Both are living in Bordeaux and one brother Pierre, 16 years old who lives with their parents in Seoul.

At a very tender age, together with her family Cynthia has been already exposed to a lot of foreign places especially that her dad has postings overseas as high executive in a French international company. Thus, she speaks French and English perfectly. Although, she admits that she is struggling with her little knowledge in Ilocano and Tagalog. She only understands few words.

She graduated high school in the French International School in Cairo and had acquired an excellent mark in her Scientific Baccalaureat , her qualification exam to enter college. And she’s always been a consistent honor student.

Cynthia is a well-rounded girl. She excels in music. She won different competitions in piano recitals when she was young. She plays the flute and she learned to play the guitar by herself. She composes her songs too. Ask her where she got that genes and she will say, "from the Filipino side of course." Her grandfather on the mother side was a famous violinist in his hometown. And her mom loves to sing as well.

Cynthia, together with her sister and her brother will never hesitate to render a musical number when asked by the family. They just absolutely love singing. They are never shy!

She used to render songs during her mom’s special fund raising projects intended for the less fortunate OFWs in Cairo, Egypt during their posting there.

She does not only love music but she loves sports too. She plays badminton, volleyball and occasionally goes swimming with friends.

About four years ago, Cynthia decided to work one summer for the mentally and physically handicapped people. It was such a challenging experience for her being the first time to handle such responsibility in-charged 24 hours- a- day and 7 days- a -week and these people could be moody and unpredictable. In order for her to calm them down, she would start strumming her guitar and sing them songs, and that would immediately mellow them down.

She is very much mature on her age. At one point, though she cracked up, she was down and was asked if she would continue to do it again the following year and she answered with a resounding "yes" despite of the difficulties she had encountered during that time.

She was asked why? She responded, "I realized that I am so blessed and I have so much to offer and they have so much to give me as well."

The following year, she did it again. With even more difficult and challenging job. Her patients were practically bed ridden, obese, and mentally incapacitated.

She is such an admirable girl. She has so much love for others.

If Cynthia decided to join in the popularity contest for Miss Urdaneta this upcoming December 2008 City Fiesta, it is because she believes that it is for a good cause. And reaching out those out –of- school youths, giving them chance to stand on their own is something that touches her deeply and she is ready to give and sacrifice a little bit of her precious time for their sake.

Cynthia is in between two cultures. She can easily adapt herself. When she is in the Philippines with her mom’s family, she is a real Pinay. She eats with her fingers. She eats all kinds of Filipino food and her favorite food is dinuguan and sinigang. She will surprise you with "dilis and tomatoes" with fried rice for breakfast. She is not so difficult to please. Give her green mangoes with bagoong and she will eat with gusto! No kidding!

When she has guests, she is proud preparing adobo or sinigang and she dresses her table a la Francaise and voila…French and Filipino culture combined indeed!

Cynthia is very much influenced by her family. At one point, she declared that she wants to get married early like her parents and bring up her future children with the way her parents brought her up.

Mr. and Mrs. Philippe Barbieri are indeed lucky for having such a well-rounded daughter like Cynthia. She is not only talented, intelligent beautiful but most of all, her love for people which radiates from her heart willdefinitely bring good examples to other young and old alike.

Bravo Miss Cynthia! Keep up the good work!
